Magical Unicorns is a new show that takes an interesting look at the depiction of the mythical unicorn in art and culture. The aim is to use these works to gain a little insight into the way that these creatures used to be portrayed, their importance in the culture of the time, and any similarities to modern perceptions. Some of these creatures are both familiar and strange at the same time.
One of the most interesting elements of this new show at the Musee de Cluny is the way that it focuses on tapestries. Some art lovers may not immediately think of tapestries when thinking about art. It is still a niche enterprise in modern culture and seen as more of a historic artifact. Yet, tapestries like The Lady and the Unicorn and The Hunt of The Unicorn are impressive, detailed creations with a lot for us to study.
Visitors should take advantage of this alternative exhibition before the end of February.
