Normally, the Batofar is an ultra-hip venue for music and grabbing drinks with friends. However, from August 23 to August 30, 2014 the Batofar will present a unique open air cinema festival called “Ciné Session.” The venue is already well know for its eclectic atmosphere. It consists of a boat docked along the banks of the Seine, and this summer, it even has a beach conceived by architect Sophie Nicolas.
Over 300 square meters, a beachy atmosphere — complete with sand — welcomes patrons every day from noon to midnight, depending on the weather. Those who participate in Batofar’s film festival can enjoy this beach ambiance while also checking out some cool movies. Every day of the festival, the film of the day will be shown at 10 p.m.
The emphasis of the festival this year is on graphics and animation. As such, the festival opens with workshop and performance sessions that run from 2 p.m. until 11 p.m. on August 23rd. One workshop will show how digital graphic design has evolved in the art and film world. This workshop will teach participants to build their own simple interactive applications. In this way, the participants get a small taste of programming even if they have no previous knowledge of programming languages. Then, from 10:00 p.m. to 10:45 p.m., there will be an audio visual performance by the electro video artist duo Sati.
Other days of the festival include screenings of animated shorts, comic books on film, international live action short films (presented by Sacrebleu Productions), and animated works by the animation house La Station Animation. The last day of the festival is presented by Grolsch Film Works and Vice Magazine, two organizations that last collaborated in the co-production of the film The Fourth Dimension, starring Val Kilmer.
As a result, the Ciné Session at Batofar gives guests staying at the Hôtel Louvre Marsollier the chance to discover a diverse set of cinematic works in a captivating setting on the Seine.
