No trip to Paris is complete without a visit to Palais Garnier! If you are planning to visit Paris from January 19 to February 14, 2016, Palais Garnier welcomes you and gives you the opportunity to attend Capriccio, the final opera that was composed by the German composer Richard Strauss.
About Richard Strauss:
Richard Georg Strauss is the son of the German musician Franz Joseph Strauss (1822 –1905). He was born in Munich on June 11, 1864, and composed his first piece when he was only 6 years old.
Strauss succeeded to become one of the leading figures of the late 19th Century and the early 20th Century. He was deeply inspired by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Richard Wagner. Their influence is indeed discernible in his works especially the first ones.
On September 8, 1949, Strauss died, in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, a town in Southern Germany.
About Capriccio:
Capriccio’s libretto was originated in the 1930s by Stefan Zweig (1881 –1942). However, along with Clemens Heinrich Krauss (1893 –1954), Strauss wrote Capriccio’s German libretto in 1941.
Capriccio is labelled as a “conversation piece of music” and has only one act. It received its premiere on October 28, 1942, at the National Theatre Munich opera house and today it is reckoned as one of Strauss’s most famous works.
About the show:
This production lasts two hours and thirty minutes and brings together the prominent conductor Ingo Metzmacher as well as the famous opera director Robert Carsen. It also assembles a group of the best opera singers including Emily Magee, Wolfgang Koch, Benjamin Bernheim, Lauri Vasar, Lars Woldt, Daniela Sindram, Graham Clark, Chiara Skerath, Juan José De León, Jérôme Varnier, Ook Chung, Julien Joguet, Myoung-Chang Kwon, Chae Wook Lim, Vincent Morell, Christian Rodrigue Moungoungou, Hyun-Jong Roh, and Slawomir Szychowiak.
