The Musée d’Orsay gives you the opportunity to explore the works of the French Post-Impressionist painter, Henri Rousseau (1844 –1910), by organizing a special exhibition entitled The Douanier Rousseau. Archaic Candour, from March 22 to July 17, 2016.
Also called Le Douanier, a nickname that he acquired from his work for the Paris Customs Office from 1871 to 1893, Rousseau was a self-taught painter who is today regarded as one of the key figures of the late 19th century’s Naïve and Primitive art movements.
The Douanier Rousseau. Archaic Candour juxtaposes Rousseau’s stunning paintings with works that strongly influenced his art and others by famous avant-garde artists.
