The names Van Gogh, Manet, Renoir, Cezanne and Degas are not unfamiliar in the French art world. Students study these impressionist and post-impressionist masters at school. Art lovers will make repeat visits to galleries to see their best work. Even those that claim to know nothing of art can recognise some key pieces. This is why the new Collection Courtauld exhibition at the Fondation Louis Vuitton is so important.
There are many great pieces from these artists in the Courtauld Gallery in London – such as Van Gogh’s Self Portrait with a Bandaged Ear and Renoir’s La Loge. This spring, a small group of them will be on display in Paris. This is the perfect chance for art lovers and students to see pieces that they have only seen in textbooks or online. The show is only here from February 20th until June 17th. After that, Paris will – unfortunately – have to give the artwork back.
