The Musée du Louvre is hosting an extraordinary exhibition drawing attention to the art of sketching in Genoa, at the times when it was an independent state.
The exhibition focuses particularly on the period from the 16th until the 18th century, a period marked by the rise of sketching in the republic.
Both the economic and cultural settings of Genoa favored the propulsion of sketches during that period and many of the pieces created are today housed at some of the most renowned museums of the world.
Thanks to a ten-year period of active research made by the Louvre, a huge and fascinating collection of 600 pieces is on view at the museum on the occasion of this large exhibit.
Works by Luca Cambiaso, the leading artist in Genoa in the 16th century, are among the pieces on exhibition, shown in an attempt to offer the public the opportunity to distinguish between his originals and several copies of his works.
To discover what this fascinating exhibition has to offer you, don’t hesitate to visit the Musée du Louvre during your stay in Paris. The museum is a stone’s throw away our lovely Hotel Louvre Marsollier !
