Degas was an important figure in the French cultural scene in more ways than one. His paintings and sculptures continue to inspire new generations in galleries across the world. His portraits and figures of dancers are famous and let us see his clever approach to movement, form, expression and the theatrical arts. Then there is his status in the world of French Opera. Degas would paint scenes from French Opera houses and important shows to continue this love affair with works on stage.
Now, the Musée d’Orsay plans a new exhibition based on this area of his work. We can see a series of paintings and sculptures from this theme that showcase the love of opera and the understanding of the performance. The show opens on the 24th of September and continues under January 19th. Don’t miss out on this chance to examine Degas approaches in such an extensive collection.
