From April 15th until May 03rd, 2017, the Opera de Paris organizes a new operatic show at the Bastille that presents to the audiences the Russian composer Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov’s opera La Fille de Neige (English: The Snow Maiden).
With a Russian libretto, written by the composer himself and originated from the like-named play by the Russian playwright Alexander Ostrovsky, the opera’s premiere took place at the Mariinsky Theatre, in Saint Petersburg, on January 29, 1882, in a performance conducted by the popular Czech conductor Eduard Francevič Nápravník.
Today’s performance at the Opera Bastille opera house brings together the famous conductor Mikhail Tatarnikov as well as the prolific opera director who was awarded «The Golden Mask» several times, Dmitri Tcherniakov. It also assembles great operatic singers like Aida Garifullina, Yuriy Mynenko, Martina Serafin, Ramón Vargas, and Thomas Johannes Mayer.
