The staff at the Palace of Versailles have created a brilliant new exhibition to honour the 300th anniversary of the death of one of France’s forgotten queens. Madame de Maintenon married King Louis XIV in secret and spent 35 years living in the palace. This new show is a chance to learn more about where she lived, her taste in art and design and her role in French history. The curators have done this by collaborating with other institutions to bring together 60 pieces of work including paintings, books, medals and more.
This is a brilliant opportunity to learn more about this figure in French history while also enjoying some great artwork. There is an atmosphere and a sense of personality that is only achieved by staging this show in her quarters. However, these newly renovated rooms won’t be open for long. The show continues until the 21st of July. Enjoy the chance while you can.
