The late 19th and early 20th century was a tumultuous time for the Palace of Versailles. On the one hand, there was a lot of positivity. Artists and writers from across the country – and indeed the world – were keen to celebrate its beauty and history. They created great works of art that would help to cement the place of the building and its inhabitants in history. However, this was also the time that the palace shut its doors and transformed into a museum – a move that wasn’t popular with everyone.
Now, around a century later, it is time to look at this period under a new light, to see these works, the artists that created them and the historic building under a greater microscope. To do this, head to the Versailles Revival exhibition at the Palace of Versailles from now until the 15th of March, 2020. Prepare to be enlightened by the different depictions of this incredible place.
