From 01 to 28 March, 2016 Opera Bastille welcomes Richard Wagner’s wonderful music drama, Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg.
Who is Richard Wagner?
Wilhelm Richard Wagner, a German composer, conductor, theatre director, and polemic who was born in Leipzig, Germany, on May 22, 1813.
After his father’s death, shortly after his birth, his mother moved to live with her husband’s friend, the German playwright, actor, and painter, Ludwig Geyer (1779 –1821) and as stated by Wagner in his autobiography Mein Leben (My Life), they got married.
Wagner was profoundly influenced by his step-father. He started his path by taking part in Geyer’s theatrical performances. He also began piano lessons when he was young. However, his career started in 1833, when he composed his first complete opera Die Feen (The Fairies).
About Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg:
Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg is a three-act opera that is both composed and written by Richard Wagner. It had its premiere on June 21, 1868, at the National Theatre Munich and now it is considered one of the longest and the finest operas.
About the Show:
This new show of Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg at Opera Bastille is conducted by the talented chief conductor Philippe Jordan and directed by the famous stage director Stefan Herheim. It lasts 5 hours and 45 minutes with two intervals.
