In the 1940s, René Magritte decided to focus his attention on what he called the bright side of life. This meant things that brought joy and an “atmosphere of happiness”, such as nature, flowers, and female forms. It was a fresh new take on his surrealist work with a desire to work in solar style paintings. The work, which took some influence from the impressionist era, was also known as his Renoir Period.
Next year, Paris art lovers will get a chance to see all this for themselves at the Musée de l’Orangerie. It is a brilliant opportunity to not only learn more about this era and the approaches used, but to embrace that brighter side of art. We can only hope that 2021 brings us more of the brighter side of life as a contrast to the darkness and lack of art exhibitions in 2020. This theme is ideal so check it out when it opens on February 10th.
