La Pierre sacrée des Maori or Sacred Stone of the Maori is an exhibition of more than 200 Pounamu treasures.
For the uninitiated, Pounamu is the Maori name for the hard durable and highly valued Jade stone. The exhibition which was organized by Te Tapa opened at the Musée du Quai Branly-Jacques Chirac on 22 May and will run until October 1st, 2017.
Its main aim is to get the western world to know more about the precious stone of Jade, the significance that it holds in the Maori culture and about its endearing value.
You can visit this exhibition if you’re staying at our Hotel Louvre Marsollier and see the 95 rare hei tikis or pendants in human forms, 20 weapons made of the stone, numerous 800 years old tools which were used for working wood as well as four large touchstones that will leave you breathless. However, the focal point of the whole show is Te Hurika, the largest Touchstone which weighs 170Kg.
