Many of the exhibitions planned for the end of 2020 and the coming year have interesting themes that seem to be a little more welcome right now. There is a desire to see things that are a little unusual or challenging to take us away from the sadness and monotony of the year. We want to be liberated. So, “L’Empire des Sens”, the new erotic exhibition at Musée Cognacq-Jay could be just what we need.
This is a rare chance to see a show that celebrates the ideas of intimacy and liberty that weaved through art in the 18th century. The show focuses on around 60 pieces from François Boucher to Jean-Baptiste Greuze and encourages the viewer to see the meaning in the gazes and gestures of the subjects. While this in-depth examination won’t be everyone’s cup of tea, it is a great opportunity for those that are interested in art history.
The show opens on December 2nd and runs until March 28th.
