Few artists of the 19th century were as well travelled as Francois Auguste Biard. His travels took him all over the world capturing life and scene everywhere from the Mediterranean to the Arctic and the Amazon. As a result, there is a vast collection of diverse painting that celebrates these travels and act as a travelogue of his adventures across the world.
This winter, art lovers can come and see these pieces for themselves in a brand new show. This is actually the first retrospective devoted to the artist so is a brilliant opportunity to learn more about his work and to compare the way he captures movement and colour in the different landscapes. It is a curious choice to hold this in Victor Hugo’s house, given Hugo’s relationship with Biard’s ex-wife. But that just adds another layer to the story. Come and learn more from November 5th until March 5th.
